![]() Silhouette-wise, though, this actually has more in common with the Kriss Vector than either of those. Short-range sniper rifle? Scoped? Also an SMG? There was a lot to work with. They're both silenced, they're both chambered for the same round, they're both short-ranged.Īnd something about the characteristics of both just seemed so very Grineer. If you're wondering, the scope is actually a video feed to a camera mounted above the barrel.Ĭonfession time: I can't tell the difference between the AS VAL smg and the Russian VSK sniper. However, some of them can become Manics if you disrupt them while they're aiming in sniper mode. Various tribals and others in the system refer to the Volsk as 'The Silent Hammer,' owing to its high impact and near-complete silence save for the motion of its charging handle in both modes. Today, the AS VAL sees widespread use among Russian special forces. ![]() Its purpose was to supersede the AK-47 and AKM rifles, which lacked integral suppressors. What it lacks in armor-piercing and slash damage, it more than compensates with its high status chance. The AS VAL, a silenced assault rifle, was engineered in the mid-1980s for Soviet special operations units. Its high impact gives it massive utility against Corpus energy shields. It's particularly beloved by Grineer Space Marine Expeditionary Forces, Nightwatch, Tusk, and Kuva Guardians, who use it to deadly effect. While it has less penetration, Grineer have praised its power, fire rate, and flexibility, with the Volsk becoming a common sight among Grineer of every type. It acts much like the Quartakk, firing rounds at ludicrously high speed. It fires 2 rounds per shot in hyperburst, with no range limit, and none of the accuracy issue of SMG mode. Unfortunately, this gives its automatic mode high falloff, with bullets veering off course and/or dropping (much like Astilla slugs) after a certain distance. It boasts damage rivaling the Tenno 'Boltor' rifle series, with the highest status and damage of any SMG currently produced in the Origin System. It fires a slow-moving non-hitscan round analogous to the ancient 9x32mm round fired by the AS VAL and VSK SMG and sniper rifle. The Volsk silenced smg was designed by the Grineer Kletka Production Zone specifically for close quarters fighting and precision, in response to reports that the common Vulkar sniper rifle was simply unsuited to the close quarters of spaceships and some urban environments such as Corpus Gas Cities. Zoom: 1.8x (+18% Base crit chance while zoomed) (NOTE ALSO: It has higher projectile speed.) This is as much for balance as your comfort) It's rather blurry outside the scope, though. This doesn’t matter, though, because when she turns up at her dingy lodgings, poor Speranza, aged and anguished, is beyond support, more interested in Mary’s offering of a plum cake than anything else. The delusion that Jane might be grateful for the concern of a woman who dragged her and her husband through the courts is one of Mary’s many delusions. These are more favourable than Mary had thought, and she decides to go to London to support Jane Wilde in her maternal distress. Then Emily falls ill, takes to her bed and instructs the impractical Mary on the intricacies of their finances. Emily arranges a trip to Cork, where she looks after their monetary affairs while Mary searches the newspapers for every scrap of information about Oscar’s case. These summer months in which Mary writes her diary are unusual for the Travers sisters. (Mary converted to Protestantism in her rebellious youth.) And whether Mary might be considered deserving if the countess by whose grace and favour they survive, Anna Kingston, should learn of her past is doubtful. The Travers sisters have to dissimulate, as Emily is still a papist. We find Travers as a middle-aged spinster living with her sister Emily in Mitchelstown, at Kingston College, “a pompous name for what is really a set of almshouses for deserving and impoverished Protestant gentlefolk”. But who was Travers? And how did, or could, a genteel young woman survive such exposure? Eibhear Walshe, in this impressive and strangely affecting novel, imagines and seeks to explain her. In the end, after Dr Wilde’s already bad reputation as a seducer was further impaired, and Travers’s standing wrecked, she won her case. Jane agreed that she had written the letter, but only in an attempt to put a stop to the harassment and public insults she and the other Wildes had been subjected to by an out-of-control Travers. Travers, who was assisting Dr Wilde in his literary work, claimed that, in a letter Jane had written to her father, Robert Travers, Mary’s character and chastity had been impugned. In the earlier case Jane Wilde was sued by a young woman called Mary Travers. They were, of course, the parents of Oscar Wilde, although at this time he was only a boy and years from his own, more famous prosecution. It involved the Wildes of Merrion Square: Jane, otherwise known by her pen name, Speranza, and her husband, William, the noted surgeon and writer. In the 1860s in Dublin a libel case took place in the courts that must have entertained as much as it shocked. ![]() To wind the clock pull the chain without the weight hanging on it (the end with the brass ring) directly towards the floor.
